George Baxter Antique C.1851 Plate Engraving Printed by Licensee Joseph Mansell
An original George Baxter (1804 - 1867) plate engraving printed by licesnse Joseph Mansell who conducted his business starting in 1849 at 35 Red Lion Square. He was one of a few printers licensed by George Baxter in 1850 to produce prints using his colour patented process. Other competing licensed printers included Abraham Le Blond, Joseph Kronheim, Bradshaw & Blacklock, William Dickes and Myers & Co.
This print is one of a set of six originally printed on one sheet. This particular set of six would have been from serial number 48, although there is no serial number on this print due to it being cut from the original sheet of six which itself may not have had the serial number printed on it.
Actual title is “Older Man Sitting in Front of a Cottage” and was most likely changed to “The Storyteller” in the 1920’s
