A sweet antique copy of Hawthorne’s great American classic, with lovely handwriting in the inscription from Christmas 1897. Altemus published their Vademecum series in the 1890s, and this is most likely from 1897. Hawthorne’s Preface to the Second Edition is a great read - first written in Salem in 1850
